Hey, so goodbye Australia. Thats me landed safe and sound in Singapore.
From what the taxi drivers have told us its the safest place in the world. But its does seem very friendly. We booked a hotel from the Airport, and when we told the taxi driver where to go he told us it was "very dangerous. I dont think you should go there. That place is full of gangsters, prostitutes, criminal and drugs." We were not exactly excited at the prospect, but ploughed on regardless. Turns out it was a decent enough hotel, and no signs of problems. A bit weird, but im sure not the first or last time i will spend a night in a dodgy area of the world.
Chinese New Years celebrations are on at the moment, so lots of atmosphere to enjoy. Weird not seeing many white faces, but i like it. Thats why im here after all. We have all met up, (the Irish and ourselves), in same hostel, (hostel standards so far have been impressive), so all is good.
Will post more later along with decent photos of my first day in Southeast Asia. Just wanted to let you know i am safe.
David.
